Winter 2010 Release Notes

What's New - OpsWise Automation Center Winter 2010

Our first release of 2010 provides a brand-new way of interfacing with Automation Center, improved notifications, even simpler installation and configuration, and great new features.

Command-Line Interface

At your request, we've extended our architecture to include a command-line API that's available across multiple platforms and packaged with the outboard components.

Using the Command-Line, you can issue commands such as:

  • Trigger a task or a workflow
  • Get an update of the status of a running task
  • Import and Export opswise data
  • Get the status of agents
  • Issue commands against tasks such as rerun, hold, skip, etc

The command-line respects all OpsWise authorization and authentication rules that you've set up for your users. Check out the User Guide section on the documentation wiki for more details.

New Task Action Type - Send SNMP Traps

While it was possible to send SNMP traps through a command-line utility previously, the OpsWise server can now directly sends SNMP traps based on the status of your workload.

Accessed via the Actions Tab on your task definition, you set up your SNMP notifications in a similar manner to setting up an email notification.

Notifications on OpsWise Components

For Agents, Connectors, and Cluster Nodes you can now set up email and SNMP notifications for when node status changes to either online or offline. You can set up multiple notifications as well as set up multiple recipients as well.

Simplified Product Download and Server Installation

Downloading the most recent version of OpsWise just got simpler. We're delivering a new utility, ops-get-software that will download the latest version of the server, mid-tier, and agents of the operating systems you choose.

In this example, it will download the server and components for Windows and Solaris.

ops-get-software --user username --password userpassword --core --win32 --solaris-sparc

We have also packaged a new server installation utility, install-core that will automatically install the war file within tomcat and build the configuration file.

Also, the installation documentation has been re-written on the documentation wiki, to help simplify installation.

Automated Retrieval of Task Output

With previous versions, you could access task details from the activity screen, then click on the "Retrieve Output" button. If you know that you will always want to retrieve the output of a task, there are new fields in the task definition that will automatically retrieve it for you.

Regular Expression Support

Two fields now support regular expressions:

  • The Scan Text field in File Monitor Task now it accepts regular expressions
  • The Retrieve Output feature enables you to filter information based on regular expression

z/OS Enhancements

We've added in two z/OS Enhancements:

  • Confirm on Restart. When a user requests rerun, AND we decect there are differences in the JCL between the current request and the original run, Automation Center provides a confirmation request with the differences identified, to see if you really wish to force a rerun or not.
  • Reason for Hold. When you place a z/OS task on hold, there is a field that you can fill out for the reason.
